15 Jun 2016 - Big local Planning applications
A number of big planning applications are bubbling up at the same time across the Hotwells & Harbourside ward. There are 4 major ones of note:
* A 'pre application enquiry' for the vacant site between The Quays and Wapping Wharf on Cumberland Road. This is at a very early stage, but will be for residential. Mark Wright says: "It's good that this site is finally coming forward as it's now an eyesore between two nice sets of flats. Let's hope it's a nice plan!"
* A 'pre application enquiry' for Brandon Yard - the former gas works site and West Purifier House on Anchor Road. Previously the Soil Association hoped to put their flagship HQ here, but sadly that appears to have fallen through. The new plan is likely to be residential. It will have to be of the very highest quality in this listed site.
* The Unite Students development proposals for Brunel House just off Park St. This has been through its first round of public consultation. Mark says "The initial proposal was ridiculous and has rightly been modified. I have spoken to the developers and told them that the plans are still too over-intensive and they still need to remove the top floor and look at further ways to reduce the visual impact."
* St Mary's Hospital on Brandon Hill. Plans are due to be submitted imminently (and may be live by the time you receive this). The previous version of the plans included demolition of the existing historic frontage. Mark Wright says "The previous developer also initially proposed demolition, but changed their mind under pressure. I will oppose any plans that involve demolition of the historic frontage."
